Best Coffee-Infused Cigars
Good to the Last Puff
Americans definitely love their coffee. Based on a 9oz. cup, American coffee drinkers consume an average of 3.1 cups per day, according to a study by Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. That amounts to about 1,131 cups a year per person. However, here's something you won't find in the Harvard study: coffee is reportedly the favorite drink among cigar smokers, including a segment that loves smoking these coffee-infused blends.
Many traditional premium cigar smokers occasionally enjoy flavored cigars as a change of pace. About a decade ago, quality options in the coffee-infused (or flavored) cigar category were rare or nonexistent. Now, they are almost as common - and diverse - as the variety of beans.
What follows is a guide for cigar lovers interested in these coffee-forward cigars with rich tobacco flavor. Since every cigar smoker has their own personal taste, instead of highlighting specific shapes and sizes as we've done in past CA Buying Guides, I chose to feature some of the top brands available today. Even if you're a traditionalist, some of these might just catch your eye.
Rocky Patel Java Maduro
One of the first premium-quality, coffee-infused cigars at the time, Java – made by Drew Estate for Rocky Patel - took off like a rocket and continues to be a perennial bestseller. (Although the company has never revealed its infusion process, just about every coffee-infused cigar brand that followed was based on the Drew Estate model.) All JAVA cigars, including Latte and Mint, have sweetened caps and are sharply box-pressed with a well-balanced blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers and Brazilian Mata Fina wrappers, offering a sweet-tasting, mild to medium-bodied smoke with a streak of earthy Nicaraguan spice and an inviting mocha-java aroma.
Drew Estate Tabak Especial Dulce
Made by Drew Estate, this coffee-infused cigar line is aimed at the avid coffee connoisseur, and it doesn’t cut corners, either.
“Tabak Especial is a really special cigar that I worked on for over five years,” says Drew Estate co-founder, Jonathan Drew. “Using the very finest Nicaraguan tobaccos and Nicaragua estate-grown coffee, Tabak Especial is truly a work of art that will appeal to even the most die-hard traditionalist.”
Handcrafted in two selections, “light roast” Tabak Especial Dulce is rolled in a sweet-capped Connecticut Shade wrapper, while “dark roast” Tabak Especial Maduro Negra is rolled in a dark, toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The core tobaccos are Nicaraguan Criollo bound in a spicy Sumatra leaf, giving these medium to full-bodied cigars an earthy Nicaraguan flavor profile that goes the distance with a genuine espresso aroma.
Drew Estate Isla del Sol Sun Grown
Drew Estate strikes again with another coffee-forward cigar, this time using a handcrafted blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos infused with exotic Sumatra Mandheling bean coffee rolled in sun-grown Sumatra wrappers. Donned with a sweetened tip, the smoke is smooth, mild and brimming with a delectable, attention-getting coffee aroma.
Another appealing aspect of Isla Del Sol cigars is their affordable price. If you’re just getting into smoking coffee-infused cigars, Isla Del Sol Sungrown or Maduro is an excellent place to start. Think of it as the “gateway cigar” to coffee-infused blends.
NUB Nuance Single Roast
Made by Oliva Cigars in Nicaragua, NUB Nuance cigars are available in Single Roast, Double Roast, and Triple Roast varieties. They feature a rich coffee aroma and flavor within a compact, medium to full-bodied range that reflects the shapes of the classic Oliva Nub cigars. If you’re a Nub fan looking for something completely different to pair with your coffee, or even a dark rum, check out the three Nuance selections blended with Dominican tobaccos rolled in Ecuadorian Connecticut and Sumatra wrappers.
Maroma Cafe
If you’re looking for a coffee-infused cigar at a more budget-friendly price, say hello to Maroma Café cigars. Handmade in Honduras by Plasencia, this selection offers a mild, mixed-filler, Cuban sandwich tobacco core.
Rolled in Honduran-grown Connecticut seed wrappers with sweetened caps, the Maroma Café Breve shapes issue a mild smoke with a cappuccino-like aroma. The cigar has mostly light tobacco flavor, but if you pair it with a mug of your favorite morning coffee, it can be quite satisfying.
Odyssey Coffee
The Odyssey Coffee offers authentic cafe flavors without forking over a premium. You'll enjoy rich coffee notes like a fancy latte, with creamy chocolate and sweet espresso undertones. This medium-bodied stick works great with your morning coffee or stands well on its own. At this budget-friendly price, you get the same satisfying experience as premium coffee cigars. Perfect for starting your day or relaxing after work.
PDR Natural Roast Cafe
The PDR 1878 Natural Roast Cafe wraps an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaf around Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos with a subtle coffee infusion. What sets this apart is the real cane sugar used in the infusion process, creating a refreshing mocha latte flavor without being overpowering. You'll taste creamy coffee, vanilla, and cocoa notes in the first half, then it transitions to a mellow, earthy smoke. This is a great gateway cigar for newcomers to coffee-infused cigars and pairs beautifully with your favorite cup of joe.
M by Macanudo
Macanudo's first-ever infused cigar breaks the mold by using premium tobaccos instead of substandard tobacco for flavored cigars. Handcrafted in the Dominican Republic with an Indonesian Bezuki wrapper, Philippine binder, and aged Nicaraguan long-fillers, this medium-bodied smoke features single-origin Colombian coffee infusion that’s bright and smooth. You'll taste milk chocolate, cedar, cinnamon, and subtle spice backed by rich coffee notes without being overly sweet. Add to your cart and discover why this coffee-infused premium changes minds about flavored cigars.
Tatiana Mocha
Tatiana Mocha combines premium Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Mexican tobaccos in dark Sumatra wrappers, flavored with luxury chocolates, vanilla essence, and Caffea robusta. You'll experience consistent mocha flavor all the way to the end with an easy draw and plenty of creamy smoke. This medium-bodied treat delivers the strongest profile in Tatiana's lineup while remaining mellow and smooth. A budget-friendly alternative to more expensive options, it provides rich flavors without breaking the bank. Unlike many similar cigars, this stick isn't overly sweet and makes an excellent dessert cigar. Order some today.
