CA Report: Top New Cigars (Apr 13 2020)

As many cigar enthusiasts like us are now working from home, we have found more opportunities to fire up our beloved smoky treats. And in times like these, having a relaxing outlet is – at least to me – invaluable.

Those of you who’ve kept up with Top New know I’m all about trying the newest cigars. I remind you that smoking isn’t necessarily about finding your forever blend and sticking to it. If you have, all the power to you. I just prefer to explore new flavors and know that many of you feel the same.

In this edition of TNC, I’m featuring five new cigars from Rocky Patel, Punch, Tatuaje, and Aganorsa Leaf. Each of these blends is beyond smoke worthy, so take a peek and see if any of these newbies sound like they’re right for your taste buds.

Siboney Reserve Maduro by Aganorsa Leaf

Wrapper: Nicaraguan San Andres Maduro
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

That “Tiger King” phenomenon might be a great way to cure general boredom, but Siboney Reserve Maduro by Aganorsa Leaf will cure your taste buds’ boredom for sure. The cigar is the follow-up to the Famous-exclusive, Corojo-clad Siboney Reserve. This time, an all Nicaraguan frame and Nicaraguan San Andres Maduro wrapper oozes a buttery sweetness, notes of nutmeg, and black pepper on the finish. If you love cigars that are extra stout, Siboney Maduro is a shoo-in. Plus, it’s a whole lot more affordable (and less risky) than getting in the big cat business (you know you thought about it)!

Tatuaje Black Petite Corona

Wrapper: Nicaragua Criollo
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Looking to sneak a cigar in between those upcoming video conferences? Let this Tatuaje Black Petite Corona lead the way. The smoke is heavy and full-bodied with snippets of coffee, sweetness, and a touch of ginger. It’ll last you about half an hour, fast enough to get out – and back in – before the boss is questioning your whereabouts. Additionally, these lil’ beauts come in boxes of 50, so your stash is sure to stay topped off for the foreseeable future. At their price, even if the boss man catches ya “smoking on the job” toss one his way, and he’ll probably forget the whole thing.

Rocky Patel San Andres

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Rocky’s newest edition to his long list of Famous exclusives has arrived! This one’s called Rocky Patel San Andres, and the stunning Mexican leaf he’s chosen for the blend has gotten the Maduro treatment. The smoke is bold, spicy, and loaded with sweet, woody flavors. Basically, it smokes like a party on your taste buds. Even though it’s full flavored, it’s still even tempered enough to serve as a daily smoker, and priced as such to boot. See why Rocky – and many other big-names – keep coming back to these popular San Andres leaves.

Punch Knuckle Buster

Wrapper: Nicaragua Habano
Binder: Nicaragua Habano
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua

The second Famous listed Knuckle Buster for pre-order, the internet went alight. My guess is that the good word on these things spread quickly. When I lit mine, it was spicy, medium plus in body, and tasted of peanuts, white peppers, wood, and a splash of citrus. I found my way to a few more to be sure, and I found clockwork-like consistency. Seems that everything Punch is doing these days is earning the buzz. And then there’s the price. We’re talking under $5 apiece as of press date. If that doesn’t stop you in your tracks, I’m not sure what will!

Famous Nicaraguan Selection 6000

Wrapper: Nicaragua Corojo
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

For the re-release of Famous Nicaraguan Selection 6000, we’ve passed the baton to Aganorsa Leaf. They’ve developed a fantastic portfolio of exclusives, and so far, we haven’t had any complaints! The skinny on these things is simple. Aganorsa Leaf, like most cigar companies, has strict quality guidelines. When the leaves don’t have optimal color during the sorting process, they get rejected as seconds. Instead of throwing away great cigars, Famous has taken them on with a steep discount. It’s really that simple. Expect notes of vanilla, cashews, cedar, and some extra spice on its full-bodied finish. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
