CA Report: Top New Cigars (Mar 16 2020)

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Holy smokes! We’re less than a week away from the first day of spring – one of the biggest unofficial cigar holidays. To celebrate, you’ll want something extra tasty, and lucky for us, there’s a bunch of new cigar arrivals at Famous Smoke Shop, ripe for the choosing.

So…bust out the grill, fuel up the patio torches, prime your humidor for the warmer weather, and invite your favorite smoking buddies over for the first of many backyard herfs to come.

In this edition, we’re highlighting blends from Harvester & Co. and Edgar Hoill’s OSOK series along with a couple of new Drew Estate sizes.

As always, let us know which new cigars you’ve been smoking in the comments below!

Harvester & Co. Connecticut

Wrapper: Connecticut Seed
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

If you’re looking for a cigar to fire up as your favorite horse gallops ‘round the track, look no further than Harvester & Co. Connecticut from Altadis U.S.A. After all, the cigar’s namesake is a famed racing sire from circa 1880s Britain. Flavors like creamy cedar, earth, and spices are consistent from the moment you light up – with some extra mojo from those bolder Nicaraguan fillers. Bonus: they’ll set you back much less than a day at the races, too. That means more cigars to smoke and some leftover coin to bet the trifecta.

Liga Privada Undercrown Corona Pequena

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Maduro
Binder: T52 Connecticut Stalk-Cut
Filler: Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaragua

The sun slowly edges toward the horizon. Soon, the cool, damp spring air will make it too cold to smoke outside, but you have an Undercrown Corona Pequena by your side. This new 4” x 44 size will make for a quick evening finale, giving you all the rich and creamy Undercrown flavors – like oak, cocoa, and spices – you’ve come to love in a pint-sized package. For you extra full-bodied fans, the smaller ring gauge will give the cigar even sharper flavors. And though it’s small enough to get you inside by sundown, this Liga’s still big enough to keep you satisfied.

Liga Privada Undercrown Shade Corona Pequena

Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut Shade
Binder: Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Criollo ’98 and Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo

Exclaimed the medium-bodied smoker, “Hey! What about me?!” Don’t worry, Drew Estate has one for you. That same Corona Pequena size is also now available in the Connecticut-wrapped Undercrown Shade. The smaller ring gauge gives the cigar a slight edge without getting into overpowered territory. Those smooth notes of cedar, leather, earth, and caramel are all still there, and now you can get inside faster, too. Keep this in the mind the next time you’re looking for a quick smoke. It’s not one to be passed over.

OSOK San Andres

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Maduro
Binder: Mexican San Andres
Filler: Mexican San Andres

One Shot, One Kill. It almost seems like the mantra of B-movie sniper. The true genesis of the name, however, comes from Edgar Hoill’s love of photography. Those of you who remember the original OSOKs know that we’re in for a treat. For the OSOK San Andres, Hoill collaborated with Casa Turrent, the famed stewards of the San Andres leaf from Mexico. The cigar is full-bodied, toasty, and yet still silky smooth. It lives up to its name with spicy/sweet overtones and just a hint of coffee. Unlike those B-movie sequels, this latest OSOK is worthy of your time.
