May 2025 proved to be a trying time for Abdel Fernandez when we all witnessed part of his main factory (one of the largest in the world) go up in flames, with his workers and fire crews scurrying to salvage as much as they could from the burning wreck. Immediately, all of us in the cigar industry rushed to support him in any way we could. Less than a year later, the company bounced back to full recovery and has resumed churning out iconic brands for its partners – Southern Draw, H Upmann, Romeo Y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey, Knuckle Sandwich, just to name a few.

The Amar brand was released to the public at the 2026 PCA trade show in New Orleans as homage to all who stood by his side and supported him.

The name means ‘to love’ in Spanish and ‘moon’ in Arabic, adding tribute to AJ’s Cuban and Lebanese roots. The words “Gracias por tu apoyo con amor” is printed on the inside of each cigar band with his signature as a show of thanks to everyone who enjoys it.
